Re: False Accusations of Harassment, Cyber-Bullying
Social media services like Twitter generally handle claims of
cyberbullying in accordance with the service's Terms of
Service. The Terms of Service are specific to each service.
Twitter's Terms of
Service prohibit a user of the service from making specific, violent
threats against another user. For more information on how Twitter
handles user complaints, see the site’s help section,
including its post on how to contest
an account suspension, as well as these posts
from a Twitter official on Get Satisfaction.

Not just Twitter
It is not just in Twitter that cyber-bullying happens. It is prevalent in sites that are after the number of millions of daily comments. There is no moderation to speak of in these sites. They are more for the traffic and ranking and money. In fact, they encourage the in-fighting. It is not hard to find the kind of sites described herein. |

There is a person on Twitter (A), who posted a series of defamatory and Malicious statements about a person (B) and his business. This started when (B) announced his son(step son) had been killed in Afganistan. Initially (A) was one of a few who claimed there had been no death: it was only a publicity stunt on (B's) part to promote his business. When others (C,D,E et al) would come to (B's) defence, (A) would claim s/he was being harrassed and Cyber bullied by (B's) defenders.
Even after it was proven true that the young man had indeed been killed (A) did not appoligize for claiming it was a hoax. Although other "death doubters" stopped tweeting on the subject, (A) continued to hammer away on (B). S/he began to question (B') business practices, tweet by tweet.
(A) received replies from many who felt s/he should just (basically) shut up and let the family grieve in peace.
(A) would respond by claiming s/he was being "cyber-bullied" and that (B's) family was behind the "cyber-bullying"
Any attempt by (B's) defenders to present a true and facutal account of events was and is labled as "cyber bullying" by (A): who "reports them" to Twitter, MySpace, etc.
Does anyone know if Twitter, or other Social Media networks check into the veracity of "cyber-bullying" claims?
Do they just "suspend" accounts on someones "word"?
What happens to someone who constantly hides behind the claim of being "cyber-bullied"?
