Pattern of threatening (and baseless) defamation lawsuits

You could use the advanced search page in our legal threats database to limit your search to only certain legal claims or subject areas.  I'd suggest that you try searching for the SLAPP subject area.  SLAPPs are "strategic lawsuits against public participation."  The behavior you describe sounds a lot like a SLAPP.

OMG Christine! I am so sorry this has happened to you.

I know all too well about crooks in robes. More down my alley, however, are crooked attorneys. What I have learned upon reporting these attorneys to state bars is that state bars (and other state related attorney "ethical" agencies) ONLY protect the lawyer! Imagine my surprise! In one case, the attorney that was threatening me with a ridiculous lawsuit was ineligible to practice law in the state -- that's what the state bar website said! He also had a nasty habit of breaking the law (DUI, carrying an unlicensed gun, etc) according to a county website. What do you think happened when I reported this turkey to the state bar? Within one week, the state bar page showed that he WAS eligible to practice law and ALL county records of his previous offenses were removed from the county website. I still have a case #, but they have never gotten back to me despite a handful of inquiries by me. It was a lawyer that outted my anonymous blogging identity to begin with way back. He wrote to me as "someone else." I was green back then and did not know the greasy ropes. BADA BING, I was outted. I followed up with that state bar too. I knew I was screwed when I got a response within 7 days in the mail -- that's just too fast! Essentially, the bar of that state said they would sue me if I dare mentioned it again! (Again, imagine my surprise back then). I don't expect help from the ACLU and EFF, my cause is too fringe. I do agree that we finance a legal system designed by and for lawyers.

Thank you David. The issue of SLAPP has come up before. Somehow in my mind, I had thought SLAPPs involved only large corporations trying to silence free speech. In my case, I usually deal with wealthy individuals who prop up suspect 501c3s. But as you write, "strategic lawsuits against public participation" this is exactly what I deal with. Thanks for the tip! I will search the database.

Youngkingdavid, you've obviously had those same experiences I've had with lawyers and Bar associations.

In fact, apparently one of the CRIMINALS who I exposed filed a totally frivolous complaint against me, alleging unlicensed practice of law. And the MORONS at the AZ Bar actually started harassing me. Here's our communication and my public response in 2005:

More recently, I advised some collection lawyers that my clients (who they sued for debts enrolled in a fraudulent debt elimination program) had been defrauded and that the fraudsters had provided the moronic court filings to them (resulting in sanctions against my clients). I asked the attorneys for HELP with suing those criminals so that the banks could recover some of the supposed $50 million that were illegally obtained from the consumers who made monthly payments.

So the attorneys filed a Bar complaint about ME and NOT about the debt elimination criminals who defrauded my clients and DID provide the horrible legal advice and court filings to my clients.

I'm awaiting the Bar reply to my response, including my complaint about collection lawyer Jennifer R. Spiegel with Hammerman & Hultgren. Apparently they did nothing about the criminals who DID provide legal advice to my clients and clearly engaged in the unlicensed practice of law.

Thing is, there really is no point to fighting. As doctor Tameira Hollander, Jehu Hand and Learned Jeremiah Hand know, I've mastered the art of losing, but still ensuring that their dirty deeds remain public and anyone researching them will be able to find the TRUTH about them. I lost, but they sure did NOT get what they wanted and in fact, they now got a lot more negative publicity than if they had left me alone.

But few others are willing to go to jail and there are way too many lawyers with no conscience, morals or ethics, willing to file these frivolous suits and apparently they OWN most judges or the judges are perverts who enjoy furthering injustice.

What I've been doing is not "fringe" whatsoever. I use my real name and I publish authentic documentation. That I ended up with TWO warrants against me for publishing nothing but the TRUTH and that NO free speech organization gives a damn is truly telling.

So I just hope that many people do what I did, start growing their own healthy food, refuse to participate in this corrupt system and vote with their MONEY.

This entire corrupt system could be brought down if enough people refused to finance it and refused to work for the big corporations.

I was hopeful in 2008, but DESPITE the PEOPLES' opposition to the bailout, the crooks (lawyers) in Congress decided to provide trillions of dollars to ruthless criminals.

I can't stop or change what's going on, but I can try to remove myself from this corrupt system and I continue to publicize how things work in America.
