Hello,
I work for a book packager in California--we edit, design, typeset, and coordinate printing for books, but we are not a publisher. Our company is usually credited on the copyright page or in the colophon for such categories as design, copyediting, typesetting, and production and project management.
My question is: if we produce for a publisher a book containing a photo without publication permission, are we liable? That is, if a publisher provides us their book to produce, and includes in it a photograph whose creator or rights owner has not granted permission for its inclusion, would we be liable once the book is printed?
Thanks so much for your responses!
